West Bengal is a land of incredible diversity, not just in its landscapes but in its seasons too. Each time of year offers a unique flavor, a different palette of colors, and a distinct set of experiences. Here's our guide to navigating a year in Bengal.
Winter (December - February)
Considered the best time to visit by many, winter offers pleasant, cool weather across the state. It's the perfect season for exploring the historical sites of Kolkata and Murshidabad without the heat. In the north, the skies are clear, offering crisp views of the Himalayas. It's also the season for the famous Poush Mela in Shantiniketan and the vibrant Kolkata Christmas Festival.

Spring (March - April)
Spring is short but vibrant. The highlight is Basanta Utsav (Holi), especially the colorful celebrations in Shantiniketan. The weather starts to warm up, and in the Himalayan foothills, rhododendrons and other flowers are in full bloom, making it a beautiful time for trekking.
Summer (May - June)
The plains can get hot and humid, making it the ideal time to escape to the hill stations of Darjeeling and Kalimpong. The weather here is pleasant, and the tea gardens are lush and green. It's also a great time to spot wildlife in the national parks of the Dooars before the monsoon arrives.
Monsoon (July - September)
The monsoon transforms Bengal into a sea of green. While travel can be challenging, it's a magical time to experience the state. The rain-washed landscapes are stunning, and it's the season for unique festivals like Jhapan in Bishnupur. For photographers, capturing Kolkata in the rain is an experience in itself.

Autumn (October - November)
The festive season! With the monsoon over, the air is fresh and a festive mood takes over. This is the time for Durga Puja, Bengal's biggest festival, followed by Kali Puja and Diwali. The weather is pleasant, making it another peak season for tourism.
